Help spruce up the River Don
LITTER haters have a chance to take part in a community clean-up next week.
The event will take place by the River Don at Dalton on Monday, August 22 from 10am to 4pm.
It is Part of Living Heritage of the River Don, a £1.6m project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to get salmon back up the river as far as Sheffield.
The clean-up will focus on an area behind the Asda store which has become littered.
Organised by the Don Catchment Rivers Trust, the event is being run with Dalton Parish Council, Rotherham Borough Council and community groups and volunteers in the area, as well as Asda.
The morning session for the clean-up takes place between 10am and 12.30pm and the afternoon session runs from 1.30pm to 4pm.
Volunteers should meet in the Asda overflow car park.
All equipment will be provided and participants should wear sturdy footwear and suitable clothing for the weather.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
A spokesman for Don Catchment Rivers Trust said: “Once we have had the clean-up day we hope to establish a group of volunteers to look after the area longer term.
“We are also hoping to run school visits in the area, which has some wonderful wildlife and stunning views of Aldwarke Weir.”
