Sheffield Is Among Top Holiday Destinations In Europe
Sheffield is among the top holiday destination in Europe a top travel publisher has revealed.
Judges have praised the museums, great outdoors and theatres of Sheffield and said that the city has been undergoing a quiet renaissance for those wanting luxury breaks in the city. This means that Sheffield is now alongside the likes of Lisbon and Geneva for this year’s top destinations to visit in Europe.
Sheffield was also said to have many quirky cafes that are packed with charm, independent shops which are in former steel factories, acres of rolling countryside and priceless collections in some of the world class museums.
The judges said that Sheffield is home to many delights along with surprises in equal measures. The city is expected to receive an award during the annual ceremony which takes place in November.
The marketing manager at Marketing Sheffield, Wendy Ulyett, said that they were very pleased that Sheffield had been nominated about the best places to visit and that the increased appeal of the city had been recognised. She went on to say that the judges only confirmed what the rest of the people known and that is that Sheffield is able to hold its own among some of the best cities in Europe.
The award is just the latest commendation for Sheffield this year. In January Kelham Island had come eight in the Hip Hangout Index of Travel Supermarket and this high-lighted some of the most up and coming neighbourhoods in the UK along with Europe.
This has been followed by a fantastic showcase in the Guardian when the newspaper published the Alternative City Guide to Sheffield. Brocco on the Park had also been named the City Hotel of the Year in the Good Hotel Guide 2016 and was also included in The Time coolest hotels list.
Steam Yard in Division Street was also featured in The Times as one of the best coffee houses and Nearby Tamper was said to be in the 50 best breakfast houses of the Guardian. The Sheffield Tap was number one in the top 10 railway station bars of the Mirror.
