South Yorkshire man jailed for sexually exploiting teenager
A 29-year-old man has been jailed for three years and eight months for sexually exploiting a teenage girl from Rotherham, as well as possessing indecent images and videos of children.
Lee Hatfield, of Manor Close, Rawmarsh, appeared before Sheffield Crown Court yesterday to receive his sentence after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to possessing of indecent images of children and inciting sexual activity with a child between 13 and 16-years-old.
The court heard how Hatfield groomed his victim, a teenage girl who cannot be identified for legal reasons, via social media from November 2015.
Despite knowing her young age, he began sending sexually explicit messages and images. The victim reported this to her school, and staff notified police.
Hatfield was arrested and his electronic devices seized. Upon examination, they were found to contain indecent images and videos of children.
Detective Inspector John Fitzgibbons, from Rotherham, said: “Hatfield groomed a young teenage girl, sending her inappropriate and explicit messages of an increasingly sexual nature, despite him knowing her age. “The images recovered from his devices demonstrate he is a risk to young people so I am pleased he accepted responsibility for his crimes.
Hatfield has also been placed on the sex offenders register for life.
